Drafts, preview, and publishing

How content moves from draft to live, and how to preview and schedule changes safely

Most content in Basker — pages, events, posts, announcements, and more — moves through three states: draft, scheduled, and published. This page covers what each state means, how to preview changes, and how to schedule a publication for later.

Draft, scheduled, and published

  • A draft is content that exists in Basker but isn't visible to visitors. Drafts are the safe default while you're still working on something. Edits to a draft never appear on the live site.
  • A scheduled record has been finalised but is set to go live at a future moment. Until then it behaves like a draft.
  • A published record is live on the site and discoverable through navigation, search, and direct links. Edits to a published record are saved as a new draft version, not pushed live immediately — see Versioning and history.

Switch a published record back to draft at any time to take it offline without deleting it.

Previewing changes

Each editable record has a Preview option. Preview renders the record as it will appear on the live site, using your draft content rather than the currently-published version. This lets you check formatting, image cropping, and the way blocks lay out before anything goes live.

Preview reflects the active theme. If you're trying out per-page theme settings, the preview picks them up.

Sharing a live preview

You can share a preview with someone who doesn't have access to Basker. The shareable preview link renders the draft version of the record using a single-use signed URL — the recipient doesn't need to log in.

Use a shareable preview when:

  • A reviewer needs to sign off on a draft before it's published.
  • A client wants to see an upcoming campaign page or announcement.
  • A colleague needs to QA layout or content on multiple devices.

Each share link expires automatically after a fixed period and can be revoked at any time before then.

Scheduling publication

A draft can be set to publish at a future date and time. Open the publish menu on the record and pick a moment.

Scheduled records:

  • Stay invisible to visitors until the scheduled moment.
  • Are visible inside Basker as Scheduled in the record's status.
  • Publish automatically, with no further action required.

Cancel a schedule by switching the record back to draft. Reschedule by setting a new moment.
